Project Description:  Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children (BNPMC) aims to contribute in the human development in Balochistan province by improving health outcomes and to address the endemic malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies in province through appropriate large-scale interventions. Program also will contribute to achieve MDGs – 1, 4 and 5. The BNPMC has five main components which are as follows:

  • Addressing general malnutrition among children, Pregnant and Lactating Women.
  • Addressing Micronutrient deficiency among children of age 6-59 Months.
  • Social Behavior Change Communication.
  • Strengthening institutional arrangements and capacity.
  • Strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation Systems.

Services Provided:

  1. Monitoring Access and Utilization of Nutrition Services:
    • We monitored the access and utilization of quality nutrition services, such as Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and maternal, Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) interventions, provided through PPHI-managed Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Community Support Groups. This included assessing the reach and effectiveness of these services to ensure they met program objectives.
  2. Enhancing Availability and Consumption of Micronutrients:
    • Our monitoring initiatives focused on increasing the availability, access, and consumption of micronutrients through home-based fortification and supplementation in the population served by PPHI-managed health facilities. We evaluated the implementation and impact of micronutrient supplementation programs to address deficiencies effectively.
  3. Improving Community Awareness and Knowledge:
    • We assessed efforts to enhance awareness and knowledge among communities in catchment areas of PPHI-managed BHUs regarding optimal maternal, infant, and young child feeding practices. This involved evaluating the effectiveness of communication and education initiatives to ensure they aligned with program objectives.
  4. Contributing to Program Objectives:
    • Our monitoring efforts were aligned with the overall objectives of BNPMC, aiming to improve health outcomes and address malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies in Balochistan province. We specifically focused on components related to addressing malnutrition, micronutrient deficiency, social behavior change communication, and strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems.
  5. Strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation Systems:
    • As part of our role, we contributed to strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems within the BNPMC framework. This included providing recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of monitoring mechanisms and ensuring data quality and integrity, ultimately improving program performance and impact.
