Scoping desk review on Improving Antenatal Care-Seeking and Delivery Practices for Pregnant Adolescent Girls in Pakistan

Objective:

Scoping desk review on Improving Antenatal Care-Seeking and Delivery Practices for Pregnant Adolescent Girls in Pakistan

About Project
The project aims to improve antenatal care-seeking and delivery practices for pregnant adolescent girls in Pakistan, addressing critical issues that contribute to high neonatal mortality and prevalence of low birth weight. With an estimated 7,000 newborn deaths globally each day, many of which could be prevented through basic solutions like affordable healthcare, trained professionals, and proper nutrition, it’s imperative to recognize the intricate relationship between maternal health, newborn health, and nutrition. Adolescent girls face unique challenges due to biological and social factors, putting them at risk for malnutrition and inadequate healthcare before, during, and after pregnancy. Tailored, high-quality antenatal care is essential for addressing these challenges, along with urgent research to improve adolescent maternal healthcare practices. Pakistan faces significant challenges with neonatal mortality, low birth weight, and widespread micronutrient deficiencies, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive interventions to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes in the country. objectives of this scoping desk review are as follows

  • Landscape
  • Service delivery
  • Health system
  • Stakeholders
  • Supplementation in pregnancy

Scoping Research on Antenatal Care Practices for Pregnant Adolescent Girls: Conducted a comprehensive desk review aimed at enhancing antenatal care-seeking behaviors and delivery practices for pregnant adolescent girls in Pakistan. This research focused on the transition from iron-folic acid supplements to multiple micronutrient supplements within the routine public antenatal care system. Key areas analyzed include service delivery mechanisms, health system capacities, stakeholder engagement, and the impact of supplementation during pregnancy.
