Implementation of ADULT Literacy and Numeracy Skills Project in two districts of Sindh

Objective:

Implementation of ADULT Literacy and Numeracy Skills Project in two districts of Sindh

About Project
The Adult Literacy and Numeracy Skills (ALNS) project emerged as a crucial component of the SUCCESS program in response to the pressing need to address low literacy rates among women in rural Sindh, Pakistan. Recognizing the significant barriers posed by illiteracy to women’s empowerment and participation in development processes, the ALNS program was designed to equip women with essential literacy and numeracy skills. By enhancing their educational capabilities, the project aims to positively influence gender roles, facilitate women’s mainstreaming in social and economic activities, and support their entrepreneurial endeavors. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the SUCCESS program, which seeks to reduce poverty and empower rural communities through women’s active participation.

Services Provided:

Momentum played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Skills (ALNS) project in Dadu and Jamshoro districts of Sindh, Pakistan. We collaborated with the TRDP program and the European Union to establish 770 adult literacy centers and enroll 20,000 adult learners, with a particular focus on female literacy.

  • Curriculum Development: Momentum developed comprehensive learning materials on life skills, tailored to the specific needs of adult learners.
  • Learning Material Distribution: The developed materials were printed and distributed to all 770 literacy centers, ensuring accessibility for learners.
  • Center Establishment: We actively participated in the establishment of 770 adult literacy centers across the target districts, providing necessary support and guidance.
  • Learner Enrollment: Momentum contributed to the enrollment of 20,000 adult learners, with a strong emphasis on female participation.

Impact and Significance:
Our involvement in the ALNS project had a profound impact on the lives of thousands of adults in Sindh. By providing access to quality education and life skills training, we have empowered individuals, particularly women, to improve their livelihoods and contribute more meaningfully to their communities. The project has also contributed to reducing illiteracy rates and promoting social and economic development in the target districts.
